Health Tips - Chinese traditional medicine

Now is it necessary to create potentially dangerous new synthetic drugs for many of the ailments for which drugs are developed. The first line of action should be to investigate existing remedies and the way they are employed within their system. Chinese traditional medicine has herbal compounds for all types of conditions including the chronic ailments which they treat more successfully than western drugs. They even have several for treating a wide range of cancers and AIDS. More and more are being researched and chemically analyzed in Britain and in other countries, and this information is available in scientific papers and journals, waiting to be taken up in the West. There are, however, two obstacles. The first is the expectation level of western patients who want instant cures. We are an impatient race. We want the instant effect of drugs and we will worry about the side effects and the real cause of our problem some other time. A re-adjustment is needed to the idea of a slower, safer, healing process. This will probably be the most difficult task. The second is the billion dollar pharmaceutical industry whose worldwide profits are second only to those of the arms industry. Drug companies do take up this herbal information but they cannot patent plant parts or even isolated plant ingredients and so cannot gain great profits from them. They investigate many herbs; in fact there is presently a massive investigation into folk medicines from around the world. But their aim is to isolate simple active ingredients which can be synthesized and patented. Then they must convince doctors and patients that the original herb is not acceptable, only their synthesized drug is safe.
